How Large Language Models Are Transforming the Aerospace Industry

A digital research portfolio by Krish Patel exploring how industrial AI systems and LLMs help engineers design reliable, effective, and sustainable aviation technologies.

Background

The aviation industry is at a turning point for both environmental responsibility and innovation. As global air travel grows, engineers need to design aircraft that are safer, more efficient, and far less polluting — yet traditional design relies on manual evaluation and slow physical testing.

Industrial AI and large language models (LLMs) are reshaping this process. AI-powered simulations evaluate thousands of design variables in seconds, and LLMs help engineers interpret data, write technical documentation, and reason across enormous engineering datasets.

Companies like Boeing, Airbus, and Rolls-Royce already use AI to predict engine failures, optimize aerodynamic shapes, and improve fuel efficiency — a real shift toward data-driven, intelligent engineering.

Research Question

"In what ways can industrial AI systems and large language models help engineers design reliable, effective, and sustainable aviation technologies?"

How LLMs Help Engineers Design Aircraft

Faster Simulation

LLMs process and interpret thousands of design variables in hours, not months.

Early Error Detection

AI identifies structural and efficiency flaws before a single prototype is built.

Smarter Optimization

LLMs suggest fuel-efficient shapes and materials by reasoning across massive engineering datasets.
